Although we can’t see the wind, we know it’s there and just what it can do. Unfortunately, because it’s not an immediately visible threat disrupting our daily lives (like a tornado or a hurricane), everyday wind can still cause damage to our homes.
When it does, it’s usually unexpected and can throw us off, making the repair process overwhelming. While you may not always be able to plan ahead and know exactly when wind damage will occur, you can still prepare for what to do when it does.
The most common and obvious form of wind damage is that which occurs to shingles. A well-maintained home has a better chance of holding up to the wind, but wind has a way of picking at the imperfections on any roof.
If shingles are loose, high speed winds can go underneath their surface and lift them off the roof. When this happens, your home becomes vulnerable to leaks. If left unprotected, roof leaks can cause thousands of dollars in drywall and electrical damage.
Another victim of wind damage is siding. While vinyl and aluminum sidings are more easily impacted by wind, wood siding can also take a hit. Like shingles, if there are patches of the siding that are not secured down prior to windy weather, they can lift off the house as well.
Unfortunately for us, the wind just loves to pick up whatever’s lying around. If there is any debris in your home’s vicinity on a windy day, it just might get hurled at your windows. Depending on the object, flying debris will damage windows—whether it be a crack, scratch, or full-on break.
One of the best ways to be prepared is to make sure you schedule maintenance or repairs on any outstanding exterior issues. As previously mentioned, the wind will exploit any loose shingles or siding by ripping them off of your home.
If any missing tiles or shingles are not replaced by the time the next round of inclement weather strikes, you can end up with larger holes or severe water damage, resulting in more expensive repairs.
As far as window damage due to wind, the best step you can take ahead of time is to make sure there is no loose debris in the yard. This would include: toys, gardening supplies, tree branches or limbs, etc.
Florida experiences wind practically all year round. There really is no substitute for making sure that any weak spots on the roof are fixed and secured in a timely manner.
Due to the volatility of wind speeds and the fact that they can happen on both sunny and rainy days, it is difficult to predict when they’re likeliest to cause damage. Although insurance companies see more wind damage claims filed after hurricanes, the everyday winds in Florida are just as capable of setting you back.

Out of no where, we sprung a mystery leak in our playroom closet. We called and were quickly helped by Leo on the phone. He could hear our panic I am sure! He was able to come out in a matter of hours to our happy surprise to help find the leak! Leo and his crew ( sorry didn’t catch his name) were awesome! They were in attic, on the roof, inside - they were all over to find why this leak was there. I especially like the fact that he had videos and pictures so while he was doing everything up there and came down to explain what he was finding, he could visually share it with us to know what was going on and it really helped. He ended up finding a nail that was bent on the roof, causing to push through one of the shingles and allow rain coming in. We never would’ve been able to find what he did. Even thinking it could’ve been something going on with the condensation from the AC unit. He was still not satisfied enough that that could’ve been the only culprit or the answer and he continued to dig until he found the real issue. Thank you for not giving up despite the downpour of rain. They assisted us with a smile and we’re so helpful. What could’ve been a whole lot worse was able to be resolved very quickly We are forever, grateful, and will look nowhere else. Should we ever have an issue in the future we know exactly who to call and turn to. Thank you guys so much!! We’ve already been referring friends to call Leo if they need anything
